St. Theresa's Clinic Manzini, Eswatini, Africa - $10,000

St. Theresa's Clinic is firmly grounded in Catholic values, honoring the sacredness of human life and offering love and compassion with deep respect for the dignity of every person—from conception to natural death.
The clinic works closely with social services, local Catholic parishes, religious Sisters, and the broader community. They employ a family-centered approach that, with the patient's permission, encourages the involvement of mothers, grandmothers, partners, and extended family. They do not provide or refer for abortion. Instead, they offer medical, psychosocial, and spiritual care rooted in compassion and accompaniment.
Their vision to build a fully equipped birth center will allow this care to continue through labor and delivery—the moment a mother first holds human life in her arms. Their hope is to nurture early bonding and prevent the trauma and isolation that too often accompany unsupported births.
In addition to maternal care, the clinic provides primary care, HIV/AIDS testing and counseling (Eswatini has the highest HIV prevalence in the world), as well as dental and eye care. Adjacent to the clinic is Hope House, a hospice and palliative care home also owned by the Diocese of Manzini and operated by the Catholic Nurses Guild. There, the dying are cared for with dignity and reverence, embodying the corporal works of mercy for those most in need.
Providence Pregnancy Center - $5,000
The center is directed by Jessica Freyne and opened in 2022. They have assisted over 200 women. Ms. Freyne explains:
"Our pregnancy center boasts a beautiful baby pantry where we distribute diapers, clothing, and essentials to mothers in crisis. We counsel abortion-minded and abortion-vulnerable women in areas such as chastity, healthy relationships, financial literacy, and parenting. We believe in building relationships with the mothers we serve so that they experience love and community. Our maternity home, Casa De Maria, is set to open next month and will be able to house up to four pregnant women at a time, throughout pregnancy and up to twelve months after giving birth. My hope is that by loving these women and their children and proving to them they are supported, we build a culture that won't consider abortion as an option."
